On September 10th, 2010, the Boulevard der Stars, the “German Walk of Fame”, was opened at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. The official opening was followed by a glamorous gala staged at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Berlin. The list of approximately 400 guests represented A-list actors of the German film industry: Many of the honoured stars such as the author Wolfgang Kohlhaase, the actor Armin Mueller-Stahl, the camera man Michael Ballhaus and directors Doris Dörrie, Dominik Graf and Wim Wenders were present at the event. Other celebrities such as author Professor Fred Breinersdorfer, actors Marie-Luise Marjan, Pheline Roggan, Claudine Wilde and Michael Mendl as well as presenters Cerno Jobatey and Dieter Kosslick, Director of the Berlinale, celebrated with the guests of honour. The special guest Tom LaBonge came especially from Hollywood in order to bring a road sign of "his" personal Walk of Fame in L.A.

Amongst others, actors like Romy Schneider, Götz George and Marlene Dietrich as well as directors Wolfgang Petersen, Alexander Kluge and Max Ophüls also received a “Walk of Fame” recognition in the past. The jury of five experts, including Senta Berger and Dieter Kosslick, chose the first 40 stars. "Now we have an all-year-round attraction for old and young in Berlin. A grandmother can show her grandchildren who she had a crush on when she was young.” Another ten stars will be added next year because it is intended for the Boulevard der Stars to be a growing document," explained Georgia Tornow, CEO of Boulevard der Stars Gemeinnützige GmbH.
