Background

"Dog Day" is an annual event that is held all over Germany. "Dog Day" is how the German Kennel Club and its member associations honour the special role that dogs play in society. This is done in a way that it entertains and educates all dog lovers and owners. The 2012 ambassador and patron – and successor to Nina Ruge (2010) and Erol Sander (2011) – was the actor and dog enthusiast, Ralph Herforth. For the third time, the "Botschafter des Hundes" ("Dog Ambassador") title was given to a public personality who stood out for his or her positive attitude towards living with dogs and towards dogs in general.
